biblethumper,
It is not really true that one person cannot be a bigger heathen than another. There are degrees of punishment in hell just like degrees of rewards in heaven.
Not all sinners will be punished equally in hell. Not all saints will be rewarded equally in heaven.

Is that Biblical, or did you get that from Dante?

Post by messengermicah on May 2, 2006 13:53:34 GMT -5
It is Biblical. Read Luke 12:47-48 and Romans 2:5-6. Jesus talked about degrees of judgment on cities. In Revelation 20 people will be punished according to their works. Some people have more knowledge and sin against more light. Their punishment will be greater.
Never read Dante.

Ok. Thank you for answering. I've not read Dante either, but I know what it says about Hell. I was just wondering because a lot of today's theology is based on English Renaissance writing like Dante and Milton's Paradise Lost.

Yes I agree their is a lot of theology around that is rooted in traditions and not actually based on the Bible.

I think there's a special circle of heaven for people who never read Dante's Inferno. Glad I'll be in a different circle...j/k!

Hey Valentine, take it easy and cut me some slack! At least my grammar and spelling are decent for a narrow minded, bigoted fundie.

Pft, whatever. I don't even find this funny. This is a personal attack on us as people... You guys have your fun, I'm going to read a book... and you can be sure it's NOT the bible. HOLD ON THERE! I thought we had a deal Morluna? I'm going to the library today to see if I can find those books I am going to be reading - I am up to THREE. So you are supposed to be reading the Bible. This thread has nothing to do with you and I, and I am not voting for anyone - except I did vote for myself as biggest heathen, "other". You still on for the book club? I hope so...

I'm pretty sure I made this post before we made that arrangement. Yes I'm still on.

Jules, I have absolutely no idea when I'm going to be able to read my book (John, yes?) because I'm about to sign out of my dorm and go home and then I will be on a boat for awhile. I will get to it, I just don't know what I'll be doing in the next few days.

Valentine and Morluna, great to hear you guys are both going to do it. No hurry of course Valentine, - so are you going on a cruise? Like I said, I don't know how big these other books are going to be (esp the Ayn Rand one) so hopefully we've a comparable trade in readings. Morluna, I know you are a student as well, but you do have a Bible on hand...certainly get your studies done, I suppose finals are just about ready to start soon.
I read quite a bit, so adding these won't be easy for me either. But I will add them, and comment when you guys have questions about how I felt about it, etc. I'd like to be able to do the same with you three as well, although we should probably PM for this. I doubt anyone on the board is interested in this side bar of reading...so I'll just PM each of you as I get started.

Or we could start a book club thread! Yay!
Lol, however you want to do it is fine. Actually finals are over for me, I'm just turning in a few last term papers today and tomorrow. Valentine's family has a boat, and I think they're going to a nearby beach or something for the weekend. (We live on the coast so it's easy to just hop on the ocean and go.)
I should be able to start reading by tomorrow or Friday. I'm excited to get started.

Ok, this thread is pretty much over the top. Brother Micah, I know that we had some differences over using certain words to describe people, but come on Bro. This is the type of thing I was talking about when I questioned the need of being unneccesarily antagonistic.
I do beg you to pray about apologizing to those affected by this and asking for the thread to be deleted. No good purpose is served here.

Everything in life is degrading except that which comes from God because it's all from the god of this world. All that is good comes from God alone.

cervyy,
Yes. I have read your posts. You are not a Christian. That is no assumption. You can know a tree by its fruit (Matthew 7:17-18). Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34).
So then are you a creationist? You believe the earth is 6,000 years old?

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). So then are you a creationist? You believe the earth is 6,000 years old? I'll tackle the last thing first (so i can be weird like that). I'm not to sure about that topic, I'm still looking for information to justify either ... I kinda do go for the Big Bang, but believe that God used it to create everything. I'm not a Christian according to you. According to others who have waved the Good Book around I am. I say I am, but disagree with you on your view of God (yes I know, that's getting into idolotry and all that jazz). I also have my own reasons to doubt what is printed between the covers of Bibles ... come on, how old is it? How many versions? How many translations?? Anyone who has ever studied a language knows things don't always translate 100%. Plus, corrupt people see the chance to mess with what was written as God's word and they DON'T take the oppurtunity to mess with it or use it to bring them more power?? Back on topic, you ASSuME that because you don't see me as a Christian, I therefor must be an evolutionist? I never said that. So ... you ASSuME I am.

messengermicah, you are like the average christian... you have no idea what you are talking about. i do not understand how someone can say, "you do not believe in god, therefore you believe in evolution (as a religion). first of all, most anthropologists will disagree that evolution is even a valid theory. also, note the last word: theory. theory. theory. theory. theory. theory. theory. theory. theory. theory.
what does this word mean? i will tell you what it does not mean. this means that it is not scientific law, and no secularist 'believes in it.' non-believers, or the atheists/agnostics on this board believe ONE thing: that god does not exist. however, this does not mean you should presuppose that we are all evolutionists, satanists, etc.
p.s. christian creationist beliefs are also called theories. why? we do not know for sure if it is true, but the secular community is willing to accept it as a plausible, educated guess.

Well, if you don't believe in God then how did you get here other than evolve from some animal? Tell me.
