It is a short article...really only a picture and a caption. (Jesse we got you a paper as well). The sad thing is they placed this little picture RIGHT IN BETWEEN TWO PORNO ADS!! What filth. Anyhow, the man yelling at me was an accomplished astrophysicist with three degrees (rectal thermometers have degrees, and we all know what you do with those). He has a website... www.csharp.comGod bless. --Evan

Welcome to Arizona. I tried to tell you......

It never ceases to amaze me how often people obviously do not know (or do not desire to know) how to engage in civil conversation. Even as a small child, I was taught: Listen when others are speaking and do not interrupt. Pretty basic.
But, I guess that this is just a symptom of those who do NOT want to engage in meaningful dialog, but simply to stump the chump and hear their own voices.
Thanks Evan.
Hey guys (Miles, Eli, Evan) go to Wal-Mart and buy some hats, will ya?? And a life-size bottle of sunblock would be a grand idea love, mom

Wow, looks like Arizona just voted down a referendum that would have banned gay marriage in the state. Coincidence? I think not! Looks like your presence there might have done some good!

So it looks like Our gang survived Phoenix and Tucson and hopefully no one stole the hubcaps off the Magic Bus in the process. On the other hand, how many souls did you manage to save this week, boys? I didn;t quite catch that number you mentioned? ??

Dale, you are sadly mistaken. We don't save souls. Jesus does. What Christians (are supposed to) do is this:
Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
and
I Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Lest I'm misunderstood by my other brothers and sisters. We do WIN souls (Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.)
Maybe Dale was referring to that.....

Yeah, that was the verse I was thinking of. Couldnt remember the first part of it, just that he that wineth souls is wise bit...
In any case, it doesn;t look like The Sinbusters were a very big hit in Phoenix or Tucson, but take heart, at least they got out of it alive.
I would have laid odds at 50/50 it could have gone either way......
In the bible someplace when Jesus is giving crowns to people and these people cast them back at his feet (Revelation???), isn;t there a soulwinner crown, my conclusion people win souls for Jesus .
During their telefons which i find hilariously funny, TBN also has a tally board for souls saved. Just for the record as Tbn, well, do I really have to touch on this......

Love is patient Dale. To win souls requires love. Because to win souls requires patience. Because to plow, plant, water, and harvest requires time.

I am heartbroken over your quote here. Honestly, as someone who loves and follows Jesus, just like you claim to do, I am honestly heartbroken. You are all for "calling it as it is", are you not? Well then please, allow me to call your quote as it is. First and foremost, you are showing disrespect to someone who has worked hard and utilized his intelligence. You are tossing his qualities as a human being, who God loves and thought up into existense for His pleasure, aside simply because you disagree with him. Just because you believe in God and have found truth in Him does NOT mean that you are smarter than this man, who is your elder. And secondly, you are telling him, and all of us, to "stick the degrees up his behind." That is what you quote says plain and simple....you simply used a euphemism.
Please, enlighten me....when did God start needing you to tell people to shove their lives (his degrees are a big part of his life, as an academic myself, I am sure) up their asses? Heartbroken...I truly am. I apologize on behalf of my fellow "brothers and sisters" who look at this quote and find nothing wrong with it. I am so sorry.

That's a public rebuke if I've ever seen one. Evan, it was an unkind comment. But, it's these same educational institutions that promote evolution, humanism, etc... A degree IS only a piece a paper, the WORD is knowledge above college.

I am sorry, I do not mean to offend you, but I am sick and tired of hearing Christians bash education. Why, oh why, do we close our ears, shut our eyes and begin screaming loudly? How can we learn? How can we seek first to understand and THEN to be understood if we are not in this world and using our minds? Teach philosophy! Teach science! Teach ethics! We may not always agree, but we (as Christians) have found truth! And it is that truth that sets us free!
God is NOT afraid of our questions, He desires us to use our minds for His glory! I thank God everyday for our universities! He is not afraid of us questioning truth, because truth will always stand. As much as we need to desire for all to change and come to the love and understanding of Christ, we cannot hit people of differing views upside the heads and tell them they cannot believe what they want. God has given us over to our own ways, but by His grace He has provided a way for the revelation of truth to come in and change our lives. It is our choice to accept or deny. Yes, tell people about that choice, but we must not force anything on anyone. Let us not become fascists who make Jesus look bad.
Degrees may only be paper, but they are worth their weight in knowledge. ALL truth is God's truth. If that astrophysicist knows truth about the universe that you do, then he is privvy to some of God's amazing mysteries that we are not! I am sure he knows so much more than you or I do, and he then, in his knowledge knows God's truth about His amazing universe in a way I can never hope to. Perhaps he may not acknowledge that truth as Gods, but it is God's nonetheless, and he acheived that knowledge through a university.
I have grown in my faith and understand of God's greatness by looking at issues from a non believing standpoint. Neitzshe, Marx, Barthes ... they have made me grow and stretch. I understand so much more because I look at the Bible by using literary criticisms such as form, source and redactive. I found out some of my 'biblical truths' were dead wrong....and I was taught them at church! But learning about the bible and seeing it's true translation in the text has not broken down God's power...but raised it!!!! It has made it much more wonderful than I ever though it could be. I love Jesus...and I know that he loves me, and I know I need to tell others. But.....if I leave all of my knowledge right there and do not seek to improve my witness through the expansion of my mind, then I am a fool.
Again, I do not mean to offend, but really! We need to stop being so closed minded.
Cheerfully His, LaPhilosphyJunkie

Who cares whether you offended Evan or not and why apologize to him? Evan doesn't care whom he offends (that still doesn 't mean I want to see some joker set him on fire and toast marshmellows over him like what nearly happened in Tucson, but that is a different matter all together), so why should you!

I agree that close-mindedness and anti-intellectualism are very bad. And I think the comment about degrees was unwise. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be so open-minded that my brains fall out (Not directing that at anybody here, it's just my philosophy in general).
Laphilosophyjunkie, would you care to expound on some of these formerly held biblical truths and explain what you're talking about specifically? And your opinion on source, form, and redaction criticism in relation to the inspiration of the Bible? Also you commented that "in the Greek", a both-and interpretation of Paul and James' positions on faith vs. works was unacceptable. Could you expand a little on why that is, and what education you have in koine greek? I am curious. Perhaps you could start a new thread for each of these. Not sure where they should go, though.

Just a couple of thoughts to ponder..... Now I'm not a moderator or an admin here, but I really don't see the need for you to write out what you think our brother said, especially if you are going to use that kind of language. Do I agree with what our brother said in his comment..? No I don't, but it does not need to be made worse by what you wrote. If you will rebuke him, please do it in a Christian manner. We have enough bad language coming from the atheists on this board, we don't need it from someone who claims to be a Christian, or a Jesus follower or whatever you will claim. I looked at your churches web site, and found bad language there too. Maybe you might bring that up to them. Zac

And as far as profanity goes, I am sure had Evan's fiery friend managed to succeeed, the first word out of his mouth woudl have been a choice profanity and not "Jesus loves you."

I wasn't trying to cause such a ruckus, simply to show my heartbreak over the fact that a "Christian" could make such a cruel and disrespectful comment to someone and that other Christians took no offense to it. I didn't think it was very Christ like, in my *humble* opinion. In regards to my own profanity, I was simply trying to show that what he was saying was a euphemism. I was not just dropping profanity for a pointless reason. And to be completely honest, I thought we were all adult enough to handle a very simple word, it isn't like I dropped an "f" bomb. Come on people, let's be mature alright? tbxi....I wasn't saying that I have stopped believing in the infallibility of scripture of the diety of Christ, or things of that nature. Nothing to that extreme, but merely things such as the fact that the Jews were not expecting a divine Messiah, and Jesus caught them off guard, or that the antichrist is never once mentioned in the book of Revelation, and stuff like that. I haven't been persuaded to become a heretic. So you can put the tar and torch away haahaa there's going to be no need for a burning at the stake today.

Come on people, let's be mature alright? Exactly my point... Therefore, if food ( cursing) causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat ( curse) again, that I might not cause my brother to stumble. (1Co 8:13)

I didn't realize I caused you to stumble....I'm not exactly sure how that happened, but if I led you into sin my merely explaining a euphemisim, then I certainly do apologize. I wasn't just cursing....it was more of a quote, if you take my meaning. And I love that Bible verse!!!! I'm a vegan!!! haahaa (I really am!)

Berean, In fairness here, if you were offended by the word that she used on her post, then you should probably be equally as offended by Evan's comment also. It was pretty clear what it meant.
I wouldn't call myself as personally offened by either Evan's comment or LA's desription of it's intent. I would say this. Neither bring any glory to God.
